Dreampsych is an alternative soft rock style that combines elements of dream pop with shoegaze, post-punk and psychedelic features. Dr Mann is all about that and more.
The style was pioneered by bands like Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine and Ride in the late 1980s and early 1990s, but there are references to this music style since the 1970s.
Dr Mann is an alternative Dreampsych band which has been releasing music on Spotify since 2021. Their third single was released last month and it’s called Ciggies. It’s available on Spotify, Apple Music, and other streaming services.
For psychedelic music lovers, Ciggies gives goosebumps, and it’s not the same music style as one of their most popular songs such as Stubborn Mule, which is more related to Psych Country, but it keeps the psych band’s signature on point.
It’s about smoking cigarettes and the end of the party, but it’s not a sad song and has a very relaxed vibe to it. It has some nice guitar work going on in there too, which gives that dreamy atmosphere to the track!
While Dreampsych is not technically Dreampop (which is dominated by female artists), there are some commonalities between the two genres—both feature dreamy guitars and are often released on small labels, which doesn’t mean a lack of quality in our opinion.
The song is based around a relaxed guitar tone with a dreamy, almost washed-out shoegaze style. The melody is simple but catchy, and the vocals are soft but powerful.
The lyrics are heartfelt and relatable, and of course, it asks for a cigarette in a relaxing moment to treat your soul. Be careful and smoke in moderation, otherwise, the experience will not be totally positive! We shouldn’t be mentioning it here because the article is about music, but Dr Mann’s sound is amazing for that super relaxing moment after-sex moment. Their sound makes the ambience sexy and his voice is incredibly sexy too.

Produced by Danny Mann, it features Danny, the lead singer, as well as another singer with a French accent, Ines, who plays synths in the band. Currently, the band is working on their debut EP, which will be completed in a few months. The music we have heard so far will be a taste of what is to come.
Dr Mann started out as a solo project by Sunshine Coast-based artist Danny Mann. The first single, Stubborn Mule was released on December 21 and received some excellent reviews and press and radio support.
Danny’s Mann solo project has now matured into a full band with an intriguing sound. Featuring members:
Danny Mann / Guitars, Synths, vocals
Ines Burton / Vocals, percussion, synths, guitar
Jaryd Miles / Bass, Vocals
Julian Bouliter / Drums
Stefan Unternaherer / Guitar
A good way to describe their sound would be Psychedelic, Cosmic, and Indie Country in the best possible sense!
There is a certain vibe about Dr Mann that is really contagious. The band’s influences include a mix of old-school West Coast cosmic country of the late ’60s and ’70s, as well as some modern indie and psychedelic artists or bands such as Wooden Ships, Rose City Band, John Andrews and the Yawns, Tobacco City, Nada Surf, Girls, Khruangbin, Joe Ghat, The Oogers and The Go Betweens, Lemonheads, Even Dando, or Cigarettes After Sex.
In blending these influences as well as the input from the new members, something that is both familiar as well as totally original has emerged. 2022 will be a big year for Dr Mann. Listen to their new track, check out their previous releases and follow the band on Spotify.
