Olivia Rodrigo Wants To Collaborate With This Unexpected Musician: ‘She’s A Big Inspiration’

“I think she’s an incredible songwriter,” Rodrigo said of her dream collaborator.

Olivia Rodrigo has revealed which artist she most wants to work with, and it’s not who you might think. Rather than collaborating with someone more expected, like Billie Eilish or her self-proclaimed idol Taylor Swift, the 19-year-old singer-songwriter revealed at the Grammys Sunday that her dream collaboration would be with none other than country crooner Brandi Carlile.

When asked on the red carpet with whom she hopes to make music or perform, Rodrigo said there are “so many people,” but didn’t name the “The Joke” singer specifically. “Brandi Carlile is performing tonight and she’s a big inspiration,” Rodrigo said. “I think she’s an incredible songwriter, so I’m excited to meet her.”

Carlile was present Sunday night, with five nods. The Grammy-winning musician competed against herself in the song of the year category (which went to Silk Sonic) with her hit single “Right On Time” and her collaboration with Alicia Keys, “A Beautiful Noise.” Joni Mitchell came out to introduce Carlile’s Grammy stage performance of “Right On Time,” in which the 40-year-old wowed viewers with her impressive belt.

The singer of “Good 4 U” had a big night as well. Performing her smash hit “Drivers License” – which already won the award for best pop solo performance – she went on to win awards for the best pop vocal album (Sour) and best new artist for the night. She had three awards to carry and, at one point, one of them broke when she accidentally dropped it.

Rodrigo revealed to ET that she was pretty nervous before the show started. “Hopefully it’ll go off without a hitch,” she said. “It’s crazy, I’ve just watched the Grammys religiously since I was so young, and just to be here and perform up on that stage is just such an honor.”
