The electronic dance music (EDM) industry is exploding. EDM, alternative, and perhaps other genres of music you never knew existed are all over the Billboard charts and social media feeds.
Where do you even begin when you want to listen to alternative EDM, find new independent artists, or discover new songs?
EDM songs that are outside the mainstream can be difficult to find, but that’s exactly why you should be listening to them. In this article, I will discuss how I organise my playlists and introduce some new artists you may not have heard of.
For many of us, a major goal of the party is to convey our nonconformity with the majority. We want to let the world know that our ideas are original and interesting. Today, I want to help you do just that by using music, not just as background music, but as a powerful and effective force in guiding your guests to investigate new concepts.
An indie EDM playlist is hard to create. Yeah, we have the big names that most people know and love, like Avicii and Swedish House Mafia. But what about the lesser-known DJs?
Those are the ones that have it harder, as they need to prove they can make bangin’ music before they’re noticed by the masses. Let’s give the independent artists some support, you can listen to the full playlist below, or listen to each artist individually by scrolling down the page.
1) OZZ GOLD – Unknown
If you’re planning on partying this weekend, you need to add OZZ GOLD‘s new single “Unknown” to your playlist.
The song is an anthemic dance track with female vocals, commercial appeal, and a touch of pop. It’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser at any party—whether you’re celebrating or just looking for something fun to play while you get ready for the big night out.
OZZ GOLD is based in Las Vegas and has been producing music for months only. He’s put out two singles so far and has performed locally.
If you’re not familiar with his work yet, now’s your chance! Listen to “Unknown” on Spotify and follow the artist today!
2) MAC SUMMER – Transformation
If you’re looking for a new track to get you pumped up before your workout, look no further than New Zealand-based artist MAC SUMMER‘s “Transformation.”
The song is a combination of drum n bass, jungle, and EDM, with cinematic elements that are sure to make you feel like you’re in the middle of an action movie. The track features female vocals and male vocals—both of which are ethereal and euphoric—and has an anthemic quality that will make it perfect for parties. It’s also super edgy but still has a pop feel to it.
If you’re looking for something new to add to your playlist, check out “Transformation” by MAC SUMMER today and follow the artist on Spotify!
3) DAVERAGE J. NORMAL – Indestructible
When I saw the title “Indestructible,” I expected something more upbeat, but this song is actually more like glitch EDM and breakbeat. It’s quirky, experimental, and exploratory—and it’s definitely not what you’d expect from a song with that title!
The artist is called DAVERAGE J. NORMAL, and he’s based in London. He’s been making music for some time put publishing on Spotify since 2021. You should check his previous releases.
He has a unique sound that combines electronic beats and glitch EDM without vocals samples and some video game style keyboard effects. You can feel like doing his game!
Besides having “normal” on his name, it’s not normal, I can say it’s eccentric. If you like experimental music that keeps you guessing, give this track a listen! Follow the artist on Spotify.
4) RAVENRAIN – LDN-TKYO
The name of this song is LDN-TKYO, and it’s by an artist called RAVENRAIN. She’s based in the UK, London.
The song is an EDM dance track with pop disco elements and elements of electronic music. It has a euphoric, quirky sound with female vocals and an anthemic vibe. It’s commercial but not cheesy or over-produced—it has a lot of artistic integrity to it.
I love the way it switches between high-energy beats and slower, more melodic parts. And there’s just something about the sound of this song that makes me want to get up and dance!
If you like this kind of music, I highly recommend checking out RAVENRAIN on Spotify!
5) JEMMA PIXIE HIXON – Pull Fear From The Inside
A new single from musician JEMMA PIXIE HIXON has been released. The song is called Pull Fear From The Inside and it’s definitely one of her best yet.
This is a perfect example of how to mix pop and alternative rock with electronic elements to create an absolutely addictive, upbeat tune that you’re going to want to listen to over and over again.
The best part about this track is Jemma’s voice. It’s so light, airy, and full of life. It’s got a nice intro that builds up to some pretty intense drums and then pulls back again.
It’s perfect for an EDM dance party with your friends, or even just to play in your bedroom while you’re getting ready to go out.
You can follow JEMMA PIXIE HIXON on Spotify here!
6) GRANT BORLAND – Weave
GRANT BORLAND‘s new single “Weave” is a dreamy, ambient piece of classical music that sounds like the soundtrack to an epic movie. It’s cinematic and orchestral, with instruments like the piano and cello playing off each other to create an anthemically relaxing atmosphere.
The song is also cinematic in its own way—it feels like you’re in a different world when you listen to it as if you’re watching something on the big screen or hearing it on your headphones while walking through a park at night.
The song will be perfect for parties next weekend, especially if they take place outside under the stars. You can imagine this playing while you’re looking up at them while dancing with friends or even just sitting back on a blanket somewhere with your significant other.
It’s just one of many great songs by Grant Borland on Spotify, so I encourage you to check out his other work too!
7) ORNOISE – Anima
I love EDM music, and this one is no exception. It’s got a bit of a glitchy beat, a strong bass line, and just the right amount of energy to keep you dancing all night long.
Anima by Ornoise is a great song to start your weekend with. If you’re looking for something more romantic or melodic to set the tone for your next party, this song will do it!
It’s got an electronic sound with a few soft beats that make it perfect for relaxing but dancing too.
The producer is bold, following his EP, which mixes melodic techno (Blackbeard records, Mojoheads records), he explores other forms of electronic music. Ornnoise combines electronica, downtempo, deep breaks, and drums with melody and soul.
Listen to his full EP below, and follow the artist on Spotify to support his art.
8) KALA CHNG – Star
The party next weekend is going to be lit, and you’re all invited. If you want to get in the mood, you should check out KALA CHNG‘s new album Star.
This artist is based in Bristol, UK, and she has a lot of experience with EDM music, so her style is all over the map. Her new album has tracks that range from pop to dubstep beats and alternative rock, with some dark pop thrown in for good measure.
The best way to listen to this album is with headphones on—you’ll be able to hear all the subtle details of each song that might otherwise get lost when they’re played at full volume over speakers.
And if you like what you hear, follow KALA CHNG on Spotify so you can keep up with what she’s doing next!
9) ANNA STARLIGHT – Hey You
Hey You is the new single from ANNA STARLIGHT, a London-based electronic artist who describes her music as “synthetic pop.”
Her sound is perfect for your next club night or party. It’s got all the elements of classic disco—the syncopated piano-keyboard, the popping bass, and those amazing female vocals.
But there’s also something really modern about it: The synths are bright and shiny, and they give the song an edge that I haven’t heard in other disco songs before.
As mentioned by the artist, her goal is to make you dance:
“I want to convey the values of freedom, equality, and expressing yourself as you wish. HEY YOU! LET’S DANCE!”
ANNA STARLIGHT
If you like electronic music at all, I think you’ll love this song. If you’re looking for a good one to play at your party next weekend, I’d definitely recommend it! Follow the artist on Spotify.
10) MOLTENO – Element 1
If you’re looking for some relaxing music to wind down with after a long week, look no further than Molteno‘s Element 1 EP.
The London-based artist has been releasing music for some time and now she brought us a new EP, which is my favourite so far, especially the track Who’s Crazy. It’s a mix of dreamy pop, dark pop and chillout tracks that are sure to put you in a happy mood.
I don’t know what it is about Molteno’s voice—it’s soft and soothing without being too cloying or saccharine—but it really makes me feel like everything is going to be okay.
And when I listen to her music while driving home after work? It just puts me into such a relaxed state that I could stay in traffic forever if only she’d keep singing!
If you’re looking for some new music to add to your playlist, that’s is EDM but relaxing, definitely check out Molteno on Spotify!
